Our Founders
Afterglow's Cofounders, Haydn and Nikki's, journey to creating their ideal sunscreen began from a personal place. At just 31 years of age, Haydn had a huge wake-up call. He had to undergo surgery to remove skin cancer from his forehead. The experience was a stark reminder that he needed to be proactive about his own skin health.
The Realisation
Nikki's early years in the UK were painted with the bronzed glow of sunbeds and the scent of tanning oil.
Growing up, society had a way of dictating beauty standards, and for Nikki, a tanned skin was the epitome of beauty. European vacations saw her, like many others, basking under the sun with just a hint of factor 4 tanning oil, hoping to achieve that perfect sun-kissed glow.
But life has its ways of offering perspective. Nikki's relocation to Australia marked a shift in her outlook. The land down under, known for its intense sun, also brought with it an obsession with skincare. She quickly became a staunch advocate for SPF, a shield she now saw as non-negotiable. Haydn's surgery further reinforced this belief, making it crystal clear that protecting one's skin from a young age, every day, wasn't just advisable, it's imperative.
But it’s really hard to wear something every day that doesn’t feel good. They realized that many sunscreens in the market either left an unattractive white cast, felt thick on the skin, had harmful ingredients, or were packaged in non-sustainable materials. The sunscreen they were searching for didn't exist.
The Solution
The solution was simple. Haydn and Nikki decided if the perfect mineral sunscreen doesn’t exist, they should create it. This is how Afterglow was born.

Is this ok for sensitive skin?As always do a patch test first but mineral sunscreens are the best option for sensitive skin!

Is it ok for acne prone skin?It sure is, we added in an ingredient called niacinamide that reduces oil and acne.

Can men use it to?They sure can! Although the product was designed with women in mind that doesn’t mean that men can’t use it too, because who doesn’t want protected and nourished skin?

Is it vegan?It sure is! And cruelty free.

Is it water resistant?Yes, for up to 80mins.

Is it reef friendly?It is; a mineral sunscreen, free from parabens and chemicals.

How long did it take you to create the Daily Face SPF? It’s so good!Thank you! It took two and a half years to perfect the formulation and undergo testing while simultaneously set up the business side with the likes of trademarks etc.

How did you come up with the brand name?We wanted to create a sunscreen brand that gave you beautiful glowy skin after use. Hence “Afterglow”.

What’s most important to you when creating Afterglow?We wanted it to be more than a product. We want it to be a movement that changes the narrative of SPF by empowering radiant skin and a radiant planet, to ensure our brand offers unparalleled protection and indulgence to protect as many people as possible.
